IndianOil Sports

IndianOil – The Energy of India – has been fuelling the nation’s growth since its inception, as a diversified and integrated energy major. A proud member of the Fortune Global 500, the Corporation powers not only India’s economic engine but also its social transformation journey, creating value for all stakeholders. Through impactful outreach programmes, IndianOil touches the lives of over a billion Indians — empowering communities, strengthening healthcare, nurturing sporting talent, and preserving the nation’s rich heritage — all in alignment with India’s march towards Viksit Bharat.

For over three decades, IndianOil has been a steadfast torchbearer for Indian sports, igniting the flame of athletic excellence across the nation. The journey began in 1966, when legendary badminton player Dinesh Khanna joined IndianOil. He went on to become a National Champion, clinch a bronze medal at the 1966 Commonwealth Games, and secure another bronze at the 1974 Asian Games. In 1986, IndianOil took a decisive step by inducting its first batch of sportspersons in cricket, later expanding to badminton, table tennis, and tennis. The sporting family grew steadily — welcoming carrom champions in 1995, chess maestros in 1996, and the formidable hockey brigade in 2001.In 2003, the Corporation formalised its commitment with a comprehensive sports policy, covering recruitment, performance evaluation, promotions, facilities, and a professional code of conduct. Today, IndianOil proudly nurtures over 150 IOCian sportspersons, including 25 Olympians and 27 National Awardees. This star-studded legacy features icons like P. Gopichand, A. Sharath Kamal, Rohan Bopanna, V. R. Raghunath, Dipankar Bhattacharjee, Manika Batra, Rushmi Chakravarthi, Deepak Thakur, and Devesh Chauhan.

The flagship IndianOil Acers sports scholarship programme is grooming over 200 grassroots talents into future champions, many of whom have already earned national and global laurels. For women’s empowerment, IndianOil Shakti is nurturing young girls into national-level athletes. In the sphere of para sports, IndianOil has taken a leadership role by awarding 100 dedicated scholarships to promising para-athletes — half of them women — across 16 sporting disciplines, advancing diversity, inclusion, and self-reliance.

6Beyond conventional sports development, IndianOil has launched transformative initiatives like Parivartan – Prison to Pride and Nai Disha – Smile for Juvenile. By leveraging the power of sports, these programmes uplift prison inmates and rehabilitate juveniles, reflecting IndianOil’s core values of Nation First and Care. These efforts have earned IndianOil prestigious recognitions, including the international honour of The Friend of FIDE.

In recent years, the Corporation has also taken significant strides by consecutively hosting the Senior National Hockey India Inter-Departmental Tournament, reinforcing its commitment to hockey and empowering women in sports.
